چکیده

Abstract The large-scale adoption of occupational exoskeletons (OEs) will only happen if clear evidence effectiveness the devices is available. Performing product-specific field validation studies would allow stakeholders and decision-makers (e.g., employers, ergonomists, health, safety departments) to assess OEs’ in their specific work contexts with experienced workers, who could further provide useful insights on practical issues related exoskeleton daily use. This paper reviews present-day scientific methods for assessing OEs laboratory studies, presents vision authors a roadmap that lead this technology. analysis state-of-the-art shows methodological differences between studies. While former are more extensively reported papers, they exhibit limited generalizability findings real-world scenarios. On contrary, sample sizes frequently focused subjective metrics. We propose promote knowledge-based OEs. It details costs benefits technology should be communicated all facilitate informed decision making, so each stakeholder can develop role regarding innovation. Large-scale help identify monitor possible side-effects use real situations, as well comprehensive knowledge base support revision ergonomics risk-assessment methods, standards regulations, definition guidelines practices selection

Shared Control in Exoskeletons

Currently, lower-body exoskeletons for paraplegics are investigated as an alternative to wheelchairs and as an exercise method with medical benefits. Literature provides little examples for users to influence the length or frequency of steps taken by the exoskeleton, complicating stability and practical usability. This study proposes a novel control paradigm that allows users to influence step ...

Compliant Actuation of Exoskeletons

This chapter discusses the advantages and feasibility of using compliant actuators in exoskeletons. We designed compliant actuation for use in a gait rehabilitation robot. In such a gait rehabilitation robot large forces are required to support the patient. In case of poststroke patients only the affected leg has to be supported while the movement of the unaffected leg should not be hindered. N...

Robotic metamorphosis by origami exoskeletons

Changing the inherent physical capabilities of robots by metamorphosis has been a long-standing goal of engineers. However, this task is challenging because of physical constraints in the robot body, each component of which has a defined functionality. Inspired by nature, roboticists have designed self-reconfiguring robots, which are cellular machines consisting of a set of identical unit-modul...

Structure and mechanical properties of crab exoskeletons.

The structure and mechanical properties of the exoskeleton (cuticle) of the sheep crab (Loxorhynchus grandis) were investigated. The crab exoskeleton is a natural composite consisting of highly mineralized chitin-protein fibers arranged in a twisted plywood or Bouligand pattern. There is a high density of pore canal tubules in the direction normal to the surface. These tubules have a dual funct...

Biomineral Structure and Strength of Barnacle Exoskeletons

The process of building organic-inorganic compound structures through biomineralization is extremely impressive and potentially very useful. During biomineral formation, organisms restructure simple, naturally occurring minerals in conjunction with their own organically produced minerals to create new structures, the functions of which often include protection or storage, among others. While th...
